Flying is a reality for thousands of individuals. As a private pilot you can travel conveniently on holiday with your family and friends or to a business meeting. You decide your flight schedule and destination. We have not even mentioned the best part – that flying as a hobby is rewarding and fun. A PPL (Private Pilot License) is the first step towards becoming a career pilot (ATPL). As a licensed private pilot you can fly a single engine aircraft like a Piper or a Cessna. You may also take passengers with you and divide the cost but not take a service payment. The course starts with PPL theory and with that both ATPL and PPL students start their education at the same time.

Permission to Study

To get to take the PPL course you need authorization from the Swedish Civil Aviation Authorities (Luftfartsstyrelsen). Your student counselor will help you with the application process. You are welcome to apply at your leisure.

The PPL theory is taught by a Certified Flight Instructor through lectures. The lectures take place two times per week for a total of 35 sessions. The literature that is used is provided by KSAK (Royal Swedish Aero Club) and consists of all material, maps, and flight documents, CDs and radio communications for navigational calculations. The PPL theory course outline includes Flight Radio Communication, Operational Procedures, Air Systems and Safety Standards, Navigation, Performance and Flight Planning, Aircraft Aerodynamics, Meteorology, and Human Factors.
The minimum requirement to get the PPL issued is that you have completed 45 flight hours with an instructor.
